Slow: Life in a Tuscan Town

Supported by Zagat, we invite you to join us for "A Slow Taste of Tuscany," a prix fixe celebration of slow food hosted in restaurants across North America on November 18, 2009.


Here you will find the list of participating restaurants organized alphabetically by state. You will also find the names of their chefs, their addresses, the time of their dinners and the link where diners can go to make their reservations. If there is a local slow food organization or edible magazine sponsoring the event, it is also listed. On this site, you can see the commemorative limited edition signed bookplate which will only be available, through the listed participating restaurants on the night of November 18 to the diners purchasing a copy of SLOW: LIFE IN A TUSCAN TOWN. Here, you can download videos and press material, photographs from the book, as well as the cover photo and author photo.

Douglas Gayeton and his editor, Katrina Fried, will join the celebration at Chez Panisse Café in Berkeley. Lena Tabori, Publisher of SLOW, will join the celebration at Nick and Toni's in East Hampton. There will be a DVD made available to every participating restaurant with Douglas welcoming diners and explaining what he did and how.

The purpose of this evening is to celebrate the eating of delicious local food, the farmers who grow this food, the chefs who serve this food, and the organizations who help make it available. The reason this "special dinner" celebrates SLOW: LIFE IN A TUSCAN TOWN is because this book is brilliant—brilliantly written, photographed, designed and produced. Although the story is about a town in Italy, it is being published as America considers how delicious it is when the vegetables are just out of the garden, fruit is right off the branch, and fish are straight from the sea. It is also the story of a man who changed the focus of his life as the result of his experience. Still a documentarian, a photographer, and a technology guru, he is also a father, a husband, and a man with a growing devotion to sustainability.
