"The line wrapped around the block...I'm not sure what the final numbers are, but as the lights went out, there were less than 50 seats left in the theater and for the next half hour people were still pouring in. At one point we had more than 700 people there. And they loved the show. Douglas Gayeton was a huge hit, and his message, his art, and his personality suited our festival and our message to a T. We can thank Slow Food Urban San Diego not only for a good number of people in the theater but also a really rare opportunity to hear an extraordinary and engaged artist who needs to know his chickens (conoscere i suoi polli), encourages us to do so, and who gives us beauty to aid us in knowing ours. And when we came out of the theater for the break, it seemed that more people headed for Douglas' table than anywhere else, bladders be damned. I saw some people leave the table with two books. I don't know if there were enough books there to accommodate desire, but there did not seem to be any books left. And several people came up to me after the show asking if they could buy Douglas' book. His website will have to do now."
